ETTRICK, VA (February 20, 2019)- The Virginia State University men’s basketball team captured a 93-69 victory over the Bulldogs of Bowie State University for the Trojans final regular season home game and Senior Night.

GAME OVERVIEW
Despite BSU securing the first basket of the contest, the Trojans went on an 8 point run 6 minutes into the first half. Landing consecutive shots, VSU extended their lead to a 53-25 stretch with 3:01 left in the first half. The Trojans worked hard collectively with Brandon Holley taking charge of the first half scoring. Shooting over 55% from behind the arc and in field goals, Holley led the team in the first half with 11 of his 18 points. After dominating the court in the first half of regulation, VSU held a halftime lead of 53-29.
The Trojans held strong to a 20+ point lead for majority of the final half. In spite of the Bulldogs closing the scoring gap to 15 points with 8:54 on the clock, VSU put additional points on the board to regain their 20+ point lead. Although both teams scored 40 points in the second half of the contests, the Trojans opening momentum pushed them ahead for the 93-69 victory.
GAME LEADERS
Leading the Trojans with double digit scoring was Jahmere Howze with 23 points and Brandon Holley with 18 points. Cyonte Melvin took control of the Trojans recoveries with 8 rebounds.
Cameron Hayes, Saiquan Jamison, David Belle and Rinardo Perry were the top scorers for the Bulldogs with 20, 15, 11 and 10 points respectively.

The VSU Trojans will travel to Lincoln, PA to take on the Lions of Lincoln University on February 23, 2019. Tip-off is set for 4pm.
